Courtney McDermott is a writer originally from Iowa, but currently living in the greater Boston area. She is a graduate of the MFA program at the University of Notre Dame, where she was recognized as the 2011 Distinguished Student in Creative Writing. Her focus is on fiction and creative nonfiction, but she also writes plays, poems and screenplays. This website lets you explore her writing, by reading posts of recently completed writing exercises, musings, and the scrapings of her current works. You can also see samples of courses she has taught, freelance work she has completed, and published writings.
She has recently finished a memoir about her time serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho, and her first book, How They Spend Their Sundays, is a collection of short stories placed in Lesotho and South Africa. It will be published by Whitepoint Press in September 2013.
Currently, she teaches high school English.
